A message to all members of the Peel community:

ImageAs you may already be aware, in January 2010 the Alzheimer Society of Canada released the “Rising Tide" report which details the accelerating prevalence of Alzheimer's and dementia in our advancing population of adults aged 55 and over. Alzheimer's and dementia affect not only those diagnosed, but also profoundly impact families, friends, neighbours and entire communities. As the incidence of Alzheimer's and dementia continues to grow, so does the need for accurate information about disease progression, caregiving strategies and community supports. Reduction of risk factors and preventative education are key components in addressing how the Rising Tide will also ultimately impact the future of our health care system, our public economy and our society as a whole.

As Public Education Coordinator, I want to ensure the Peel community is aware that we offer a range of educational information about Alzheimer's and all forms
of dementia to the general public - including schools, colleges, service/sports clubs, corporations, retail, hospitality and financial services, faith based/cultural groups, retirement, health care and community agencies - anyone wanting to know more about this devastating disease process that is perniciously altering our future. There is no fee for these educational sessions, though we do appreciate and rely upon all expressions of support that allow us to continue providing vital information services.

If you're interested in arranging an in-house information session for your group or organization, please refer to my contact details below and don't hesitate to get in touch. We value every opportunity to reach out a little further with our public education and preventative awareness initiatives. Let us help you and your group learn the facts about Alzheimer's and dementia and what you need to know now about optimizing brain health and wellness.

To all members of the Peel community we offer "help for today, hope for tomorrow".  And hopefully, a lifejacket of knowledge in the “Rising Tide" .

Best regards,

April Begg Goodis RN
