Alzheimer Society Peel announces the addition of two emergency respite beds atthe new Brunel Day Centre, through funding by the Mississauga Halton LHIN effective December 3, 2010.

Since its inception, Nora’s House has been met with an increasingly high demand to meet the growing needs of the individuals and their families who have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. In order to continue to provide exceptional care Alzheimer Society Peel, through funding from the Mississauga Halton LHIN as a result of the Aging at Home Strategy, will be opening two new emergency respite beds in their new Brunel Day Centre on December 3, 2010.

Currently, over 231 million hours of support are being providing by families and friends who have a loved one affected by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. By 2038 it is estimated that this will escalate to 756 million hours per year. The prevalence of this disease in the community costs the government over $15 billion dollars a year and will soon soar to over $153 billion by 2038. Without sufficient support and services caregiver burnout will continue to rise and become a widespread concern for all communities and the health caresystem.

Located in North Mississauga, the Brunel Day Centre will be open for extended hours on weekends from Friday at 7pm until Sunday at 7pm. With qualified and professional staff on hand 24 hours a day and specially trained to care for the families served, the additional emergency respite beds and the Brunel Day Centre are custom designed to support the individual needs of all who stay.

Alzheimer Society Peel believes with the addition of the respite beds they will be able to provide caregivers a peace of mind with the knowledge that their loved one will be cared for in a professional and compassionate manner as they receive a much needed rest.
