Alzheimer Society Peel is pleased to offer this program especially designed for individuals with early onset Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia, under the age of 65.  It provides a supportive, educational, therapeutic program for those with mild memory loss and an opportunity to meet others who are experiencing similar difficulties and exchange information and support in group discussions.

Please call (905) 278-3667 to speak with an Outreach Counsellor if you are interested in finding out more about this program, and other services.

*Participants (and their partners in care) will be interviewed prior to enrollment to determine suitability for the group and provide background information.

We welcome enquires and referrals from local Community Services and Agencies.

"JUST FOR YOU" Early Support Group

A supportive, educational, therapeutic program for those individuals who have been informed and are aware of their diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or related dementias.

The purpose of the group is to maintain support and health of the Alzheimer's individual by reducing physical and mental stress.

The groups provide experienced, empathetic facilitators; educational videos on topics relating to the disease, followed with a group discussion.

"JUST FOR YOU" EARLY SUPPORT GROUP also provides the newly diagnosed person with an opportunity to vent, share coping strategies with others who have also been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia.

First Link Support Group

The First Link Support Group is intended for persons in the very early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease or a related Dementia, and their primary caregiver. The person with the diagnosis has to be aware of their diagnosis and able to talk about it. The group is for those that wish to connect with others in the same situation, share feelings and ideas, as well as coping strategies, in addition to learning about the disease, services available, and receiving informal support from facilitators and other group members. The group lasts anywhere from 6-8 weeks, and is meant to be a stepping stone to the Caregiver Support Group and the Just For You group. The group is a closed group, limited to no more than 12 people. The First Link Support Group is facilitated by the Alzheimer Society Peel First Link Support Counsellors.

Caregiver Support Group

The Caregiver Support Groups are for family members, or friends, who have a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, who wish to attend a group where they can learn about the disease, and receive informal support from others who are experiencing what they are. The groups are on-going, and are facilitated by Alzheimer Society Peel Outreach Staff, or specially trained volunteers. The groups are not appropriate for the individuals with dementia to attend with their caregivers. If you would like to attend an Alzheimer Society Peel Caregiver Support Group please contact us at 905-278-3667 and we will supply you with dates, times, and locations of our groups.
