Alzheimer Society Peel’s Walk for Memories raises over $46,000

Mississauga, ON – Alzheimer Society Peel (ASP) held its 16^th Annual Walk for Memories on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Sheridan Centre Mall in Mississauga. More than 290 people enjoyed a morning of entertainment, fun and an indoor walk – in total over $46,000.00 was raised for Alzheimer Society Peel.

The Walk for Memories, sponsored locally by Bayshore Home Health, Chartwell Select Greenway Retirement Village, Home Instead Senior Care, Homewatch Caregivers and Nurse Next Door, benefits the many programs and services offered by ASP including 4 adult day programs, Nora’s House Respite Care, Counselling and Support Services and education programs.

 “In 2010, there were over 110,000 new cases of dementia diagnosed in Canada – one case every five minutes; this number is set to increase to one new case every two minutes within a generation. With the help of our supporters, we are able to position ourselves to not only maintain our current services but to prepare for increase in demand that we are facing as the first wave of baby boomers turn 65” says Catherine Jagdeo, Fund Development Coordinator. “The funds raised through the Walk for Memories help support our goal of providing Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow.”

Alzheimer Society Peel currently serves over 13,000 individuals in the Region of Peel through its offices in Brampton, North Mississauga, Meadowvale and Port Credit.
